✒ Born and grew up in Japan. Roji is an only child; his father is a salaryman and his mother works part-time at a book store. She was primarily a stay-at-home mom in Roji's early years though.
✒ Attended school in Japan, all the way through graduating high school. Roji was a pretty good student. He particularly excelled in math, science and home ec. He discovered his love for cooking in his home ec. classes, and began honing his skills around that time.
✒ During elementary school, he got his nickname "Roji". It's from swapping the kanji in his given name around (Jiro -> Roji), which he came up with with the help of a friend. He still uses that nickname, and is known by it more than his given name.
✒ He was able to make friends well enough, though he was definitely meek and was easily walked all over by his more pushy "friends". He occasionally got picked on due to this, but he tried not to let it affect him too much.
✒ As he grew older, he became much more outgoing and his social skills really blossomed as he put himself out there more. He became a good friend to rely on, always helping whenever possible. He never really grew out of his innocence though, and is still prone to being gullible and too nice to say no.
✒ In the years leading up to his graduation from high school, Roji had already set his sights on Recolle University, the science department having caught his eye.
✒ Finances were pretty tight in his family though, and he knew that he would have to try to save for his tuition on his own. He did his best to to earn some scholarships to help in addition to his part-time jobs, but didn't find much luck with it.
✒ However, his parents
were able to help him and provide the resources for him to move to Recolle- a major step in the right direction. With his dream within reach, Roji prepared himself for his eventual independence. He would be oceans away from his parents if this all panned out- he needed to be able to fend for himself!
✒ Shortly after graduating from high school, Roji pooled the resources he had managed to save and from what his parents provided and made the move to Recolle. He had enough funds to get on his feet in the city. It was actually pretty harrowing in the first few months- no amount of preparation can truly prepare one for living completely on their own, after all.
✒ Once he was established with a place to live and a job (ironically, at Recolle U!) to pay the bills with, Roji began setting extra funds aside for his eventual enrollment in Recolle U.
✒ Two years have passed since his move to Recolle, and he's become much more acclimated to the culture. He's also gotten much better with his spoken English! He still works at the Recolle U cafeteria where he has since grown rather accustomed to the campus and even some of the clubs. He was invited to be an honorary member of Recolle U's anime club by Byakuya (
falsepretentious).
✒ In recent months, he has begun sharing an apartment space with his new roommate Sakichi (
idealest) after his previous roommate moved out to a different part of the city.
